VE Dolphins Swim Team

Hello Families,

It is almost time for our first meet!!  Listed below should cover everything you need to know to be ready!!! Go Dolphins!!

What: Intrasquad Swim Meet This is our “practice” meet. It’s a great way for our new swimmers to get the nerves out and a great way for our new families to see how our swim meets run. This season, we are using a new timing system. It will streamline our timing process. Please be patient with our scoring/timing team for this swim meet as they work out any kinks with the new system. This meet is a great opportunity to test out the timing system before we go into “real” competition next week.

Swimmers check in with coaches on the pool deck 5:30pm warm ups 6pm meet begins You may leave after your swimmer’s last event We do encourage you to stay and cheer on the other members of the team, but we also understand our younger swimmers are tired and have earlier bedtimes.

If you have any questions or concerns about your volunteer job, please work with Jennifer Lucas directly.

What not to Bring :NO ALCOHOL. Do NOT bring it. If alcohol is found. We can be fined and the meet forfeited.

Bullpen: There is a bullpen for 5-6 year olds and one for 7-8 year olds. These are tents on the pool deck where the younger swimmers stay for the duration of the swim meet so they can be located in time for their races. We have adult volunteers and junior coaches supervising the bullpens. When the 5-8 old swimmers arrive at the pool, after checking in with the coaches, they should immediately go to the Bullpen area, where a bullpen parent will check the swimmer in.

There is no Bullpen for 9yr olds and up. It will be the swimmers/parents responsibility to make sure your swimmer is lined up and on time for their events. Please do not make us look for your child.

Weather: We swim when it is Cold. We swim when it rains. If you have declared YES to swim, SHOW UP!!!! I will be sending alerts via SwimTopia if there are any delays or cancelations. If there is a rain delay, do not leave the meet location. If the meet is cancelled, you will receive an alert..

Which Events: Our Head Coaches David and Miles, along with our assistant coaches, have prepared the event schedule. They meet each week before the swim meet and consider many factors before deciding which events are best suited for each swimmer. Additionally they work with our Head Coordinator Julie to prepare the Heat Sheet. Please trust us that we have placed your child in the best events for him/her. Once the meet is fully prepared, you should be able to view your child’s events in SwimTopia. When your swimmer checks in at the pool deck, the coaches will give him/her a slip of paper with the events and help your child mark up their arms.

How to Mark Up Arms: Kids mark their arms with sharpie to keep track of their events Look for a separate communication coming soon specifically on how to do this with a visual from one of our coaches. THE ORDER IS E / H / L (EVENT / HEAT / LANE)

Ribbons: Yes, your swimmer will receive a ribbon for his/her events! Our Fun Day Coordinator Teri will prepare them. You may pick them up at practice from our Ribbon Box next week after Memorial Day.

Questions: If I have missed anything or you have additional questions. Please reach out. The email is checked frequently.
