Last Night Meet - DQ's
What an amazing swim meet last night! Despite an
excessive number of DQs, we won our meet! We are super proud of our
swimmers and parents. Because we received many DQs this past meet, we
wanted to address a couple of questions and concerns.
First, a DQ means that a swimmer committed a technical infraction. This can happen for a variety of reasons, such as an incorrect stroke technique (scissor kick on breaststroke), false start, or an improper turn. As you may have noticed, we don’t always have the same official for each meet. Each official handles the meet differently
and varies in the number of DQ slips issued at the meet. We recognize
that the number of DQs, especially for our younger swimmers, was significantly
higher than usual, and we understand your frustration. Recognizing that we want to provide a positive and encouraging environment for our developing swimmers, we will be providing ribbons to all our swimmers. This is consistent with our theme this year
–Swim Your Best, Be Your Best!
Moving forward, Julie and I will be analyzing this important information we received from our official and work with our Head Coaches Miles and David to address the technical infractions. In the meantime, if you have specific questions about your swimmer’s DQ (or anything else), please reach out to Head Coordinator Aileen and/or Julie!
